Multiple Noises Are Harming Us
There are three distinct noises that must be addressed and that are the source of complaints from residents surrounding Bates Troy:
- The Tunnel Washer (or, as Bates Troy claims, the "dryer exhaust ducts"). This noise is first noise that started this campaign. When you read our website, all mentions to noise are referring to this noise in particular. This is the noise that Bates Troy has thus far tried to address and it is the noise that runs from 6:00AM until as late as 6pm.
- There is a problem in the boiler room of Bates Troy that creates a low humming vibrational noise. The noise is plainly audible within a 100 foot radius, but, and this is the most surprisingly thing: the noise can be felt in our home 350 feet away. We can feel the low vibration in our chest and ears within our living room and kitchen. This noise can be heard as late as 9:00PM, and we did hear it on a Sunday. It is not on constantly (as far as we know). The worst time seems to be between 6:30PM and 9:00PM. This noise is currently off, but could return at any time.
- There is a loud hissing noise that residents describe as a very loud water hose, probably steam jet. This noise is heard around 6:45AM on some days. We have not heard this noise but residents to the north of Bates Troy, on Beethooven St, have complained to us about it and to Code Enforcement. We have also notified Bates Troy about this noise.
Bates Troy Dirty Neighbor is an ad hoc organization of concerned families living around the pollution produced by the Bates Troy Dry Cleaning Plant located at 151 Laurel Ave, Binghamton, NY 13905. We demand that Bates Troy comply with the laws of the State of New York. We may not have lawyers, money or high-ranking political allies. But we have something far more important: the truth is on our side.
"It is the public policy of the City that every person is entitled to ambient noise levels that are not detrimental to life, health, and enjoyment of his or her property."
-City of Binghamton Noise Control Ordinance
